Mubende, Uganda – In a significant breakthrough, police in Mubende have recovered a suspected stolen cow and impounded a vehicle, registration number UA 397 AR, a white Toyota Noah, in connection with an ongoing crackdown on cattle thefts in the region.

The operation, which took place at around 03:00 hours yesterday in Kisiita village, Kigando subcounty, was prompted by the interception of a truck carrying meat from suspected stolen cattle last week.

The vehicle was stopped at a snap checkpoint, and the occupants fled, leaving behind Ayesiga Christopher, a resident of Hoima, who was later arrested.

A black and white coloured bull was found tied and covered with a turpline in the vehicle. The suspect revealed that there were two vehicles involved, and police managed to recover a second tied black cow abandoned on the road in Kabateza village.

According to SSP Lameck Kigozi, police spokesperson for Wamala Region, statements from personnel on duty, witnesses, and the suspect have been recorded, and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the second vehicle.

“The police in Mubende and the entire Wamala Region maintains its resolve in eliminating cattle thefts, which have denied herders a full payback on their sweat,” SSP Kigozi said.

The operation is part of a broader effort to combat cattle theft in the region, and police are urging the public to report any information on such activities to the authorities.
