Kampala, Uganda – In a swift and decisive move, President Yoweri Museveni has fired three top officials from the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) following the release of a damning report by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) on the Kiteezi landfill disaster.

H.E.Yoweri Kaguta with a hat, Left to Right, Dorothy Kisaka, English David Luyimba and Dr.Daniel Okello.

The report highlighted severe oversight and negligence by the officials, leading to the tragic collapse of the landfill that claimed over 30 lives, including women and children, and left many homeless.

    The dismissed officials include:

    • Mrs. Dorothy Kisaka, Executive Director
    • Engineer David Luyimbazi, Deputy Executive Director
    • Dr. Daniel Okello, Director of Public Health

President Museveni has ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the matter further, focusing on criminal negligence.

The Kiteezi tragedy sparked widespread outrage, with many Ugandans and leaders calling for accountability.

President Museveni had previously blamed KCCA for allowing human settlement near the landfill, which was deemed a ticking time bomb.

The authority’s leadership was criticized for playing blame games instead of taking responsibility.

The disaster led to a garbage crisis in Kampala, with roads filled with trash and top leaders struggling to find alternative dumping sites.

Kampala City Minister Misa Kabanda has slammed the current leadership for excessive spending, citing the alarming 7 billion shillings allocated for waste management in Kiteezi.

Shockingly, this amount far exceeds the 3 billion shillings required to purchase a specialized machine that could efficiently handle Kiteezi’s waste, highlighting a glaring case of mismanagement and wasteful expenditure.

The President’s actions aim to restore public trust and ensure accountability within KCCA.

President Museveni has directed the Public Service Commission to advertise the vacant positions, inviting qualified individuals to apply.

Furthermore, Minister Misa Kabanda has been instructed to submit three nominees for interim appointments by Thursday this week, to fill the vacant roles of Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and Director of Public Health at KCCA.

In a statement, the Presidency emphasized the importance of upholding accountability and maintaining high standards of governance for the benefit of all citizens.
