Mubende, Uganda – Police in Mubende have arrested four suspects in connection with the theft of a three-week-old baby boy in Kitonzi, Lubimbiri subcounty.
The incident occurred on April 25, 2026, at around 7:00 pm when the baby’s mother, Ainembabazi Janet, left her child unattended in the house while she went to buy household items.
According to police reports, one of the suspects, Sebuliba Yahaya, was seen entering the victim’s home around the time of the incident and was subsequently arrested.
He confessed to stealing the baby and implicated Nakacwa Jovia, a resident of Mubende municipality, as the mastermind.
A coordinated police operation led to the arrest of Nakacwa Jovia, her husband Ndayizeye Claude, and Kababiito Sharon, who had been hiding Nakacwa Jovia. The baby, Sentume Dillan, was recovered in good health.
SSP Lameck Kigozi, police spokesperson for Wamala Region, said the baby has been reunited with his mother, who is overjoyed. He appealed to men to accompany their partners to antenatal visits to prevent such cases.
The suspects are to face charges soon.
