A shocking case of aggravated trafficking has unfolded in Kiboga district, Uganda, where 45 victims, including children and adults, were rescued from a private primary school.
The Territorial Police in Kiboga have arrested Nakayima Jesca, a 34-year-old teacher, in connection with the trafficking incident.
According to preliminary investigations, Nakayima hired a motor vehicle, registration number UAW 850A, a Coaster Rosa, from Muwanika Alex, who also operates as its driver, on February 5, 2025.
She then used the vehicle to deceive the victims, aged between 3 and 34 years, by promising them bursaries and job opportunities.
The victims were picked up from their parents and workplaces in Wakiso district, specifically in the areas of Kazinga, Kyebando, and Nansana.
The victims, who include 9 male juveniles, 23 female juveniles, 5 male adults, and 8 female adults, were transported to Kikooba village in Bukomero sub-county, Kiboga district.
Upon arrival, Nakayima told the driver to proceed to a private primary school, identified as Good Samaritan, belonging to Apostle Mitala Amon.
However, when the victims arrived at the school, Nakayima failed to provide a way forward for them.
The headteacher of the school, unaware of the victims’ arrival, immediately informed the LC1 chairperson, who in turn alerted the police.
A team of investigators from the Kiboga police station, led by the District Police Commander, visited the scene of the crime and recorded statements from the victims.
Nakayima is currently in custody at Kiboga police station, aiding in investigations.
Racheal Kawala, the Police Spokesperson for Wamala Region, confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigations. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served,” Kawala said.
Efforts are underway to reunite the victims with their families, and further inquiries are being conducted to establish Nakayima’s motive.
The police have appealed for information from the public to help in the ongoing investigations.
The case serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public to prevent such crimes.
