KAMPALA– President Yoweri Museveni has signed eight new laws today, State House said.
One of the laws is the National Drug and Health Products Authority Act, 2026. It gives government power to check and control more health products. These include medicines, vaccines, medical tools, test kits, and cosmetics. The goal is to make them safer for people.
The President also signed the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, 2026. This law sets new rules to save power. It brings in energy checks and allows government to control products that waste electricity.
Another key law is the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Act, 2026. It updates rules that protect musicians, writers, artists, and filmmakers.
He also signed the Non-Performing Assets Recovery Trust (Repeal) Act, 2024. This law closes the Trust. The Ministry of Finance will now handle its work to make things simpler.
The other laws signed are:
- Employment (Amendment) Act, 2025– Gives better protection to house workers, casual workers, and migrant workers.
- Forensic and Scientific Analytical Services Act, 2026 – Improves police labs and how evidence is tested.
- Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture (Amendment) Act, 2024
- Magistrates Courts (Amendment) Act, 2026
All eight laws take effect immediately.
