Ngora, Uganda – A tragic incident occurred at a school in Ngora on November 18, 2025, leaving one student dead and a teacher injured.

The incident unfolded when security personnel responded to a call from the school administration regarding an undisclosed disciplinary matter involving student Okiror Gabriel.

According to preliminary accounts, a confrontation ensued between the security personnel and Gabriel, resulting in the fatal shooting.

The bullet that killed the student also struck a geography teacher in the chest before exiting through his throat.

The teacher, who has not been identified, was rushed to Mbale and later transferred to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.

A police report filed by John Omugur, the school director, indicates that PC Ijobu Sylvia and Pte Atim Agnes, the armed female officer involved, had responded to the call.

The report alleges that Pte Atim grabbed an AK-47 rifle from PC Ijobu Sylvia during the confrontation and fired at Gabriel, hitting him in the chest. He died instantly.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from residents, parents, and local leaders, who are calling for immediate prosecution of those responsible.

“This is a tragic and unacceptable incident,” said Christine Abeja, Woman MP aspirant under the Democratic Front. “We urge residents to cooperate with police during investigations to avoid escalation.”

Daniel Okello, a parent, described the killing as “unprofessional” and urged calm as investigations proceed.

Independent MP candidate for Kapir County, James Oleja (Acomorok), called for swift justice, arguing that the incident should serve as a lesson to security officers.

District leaders have also stepped in, with Hon. Mike Odongo, LCV chairperson of Katakwi District, confirming that the leadership and security team will meet the family on November 19, 2025, to prepare for burial arrangements.

“We urge the community to remain calm and allow the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation,” he said.

The deceased student’s family is demanding answers, with Simon Obelon, Gabriel’s father, questioning the circumstances that led to the shooting.

“We’re not happy with the way the administration is handling this. Our child finished exams, but he was asked to return for two papers. He went back, and he was killed,” he said.

Sources indicate that the armed female officer was wearing military fatigues and a red cap at the time of the shooting.

Police have stated that a comprehensive report will be issued once investigations are concluded. The case has been registered under NGORA CRB 352/2025.
