A tragic road accident occurred in Mubende District, Uganda, on December 8, 2024, resulting in the death of one person and injuring 11 others.
The accident involved a Toyota Hiace, registration number UBQ 042X, and a stationary Fuso truck, registration number UBG 847X, parked at Brund petrol station in Bakijulula along the Mubende-Mityana highway.
According to eyewitnesses and police reports, the Toyota Hiace was traveling at high speed from Mubende to Mityana when the driver lost control and collided with the stationary Fuso truck.
The impact of the crash injured 10 passengers in the Toyota Hiace and killed one female adult on the spot.
The victims have been identified as:
Kobusingye Rose (female, 34 years old, resident of Kyenjojo district) – deceased
Other injured victims:
1. Nyangoma Rosette (female, 41 years old, resident of Fort Portal city)
2. Kemigisha Laila (female, 53 years old, resident of Kyenjojo district)
3. Katuramu William (male, 52 years old, resident of Kyenjojo district)
4. Byaruhanga John (male, 34 years old, resident of Fort Portal city)
5. Happy Moses (male, 43 years old, resident of Kyenjojo district)
6. Kugonza Ephraim (male juvenile, resident of Fort Portal city)
7. Matsiko Shillah (female)
8. Kwikiriza Enock (male juvenile)
9. Desire Ronald (male, resident of Kyenjojo district)
10. Agaba Francis (male, 36 years old, resident of Kaswa-Fort Portal city, driver of the taxi)

Four of the injured were referred to Mulago Hospital for further treatment, while others are still receiving treatment at Mubende Referral Hospital.
The police have launched an investigation into the accident, with preliminary findings suggesting careless driving by the driver of the Toyota Hiace, Agaba Francis, as the suspected cause of the accident.
The vehicles involved in the accident are currently parked at Mubende Police Station pending further inspection.
The territorial police in Mubende, led by Police Spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal, are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
The police have urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future especially in this festival season.
