A somber mood engulfed the community of Namagogo in Mubende district as they laid to rest 21-year-old Lubega Henry, a boda boda rider who fell victim to mob justice on Sunday night.
According to sources, Lubega was caught stealing coffee from a store in Nabiyungu village, Madudu sub-county, along with two accomplices.
While his partners-in-crime managed to escape, Lubega was brutally murdered by an angry mob. His motorcycle, bearing the registration number UFS 407C, was also set ablaze.
During the burial ceremony, Lubega’s father, Kizito, a resident of Namagogo, described his son as “a wolf hiding in sheep’s skin.” While Lubega appeared to be a responsible and hardworking young man during the day, his nocturnal activities ultimately led to his demise.
“He was a good boy, very smart, humble, and doing well in his boda boda job,” Kizito said, struggling to come to terms with the loss of his only son. “But unfortunately, he was murdered due to theft.”
The preacher at the burial ceremony condemned the mob justice, cautioning youths to be discerning about the influences they follow.
“Be careful with the voices you hear, and be mindful of what you follow, lest you suffer the same fate as Lubega,” the preacher warned.
The police have launched a manhunt for those involved in the mob justice, as the community grapples with the loss of a young life.
As the community mourns the loss of Lubega, many are left wondering what could have driven a young man with so much promise to engage in theft.
The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
