Kampala, Uganda – Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, Uganda’s State Minister for Microfinance, has announced his intention to run again in the 2026 elections for the parliamentary seat of Kyotera County, despite losing to opposition candidate John Paul Mpalanyi Lukwago in the 2021 elections.

Kasolo made this declaration on Sunday, October 27, 2024, during a thanksgiving ceremony at Kasambya grounds in Kyotera

Kasolo, a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) led by President Yoweri Museveni, who appointed him to the ministerial position, had served as the elected parliamentary representative for Kyotera County from 2016 to 2021.

Notably, President Museveni has led Uganda since 1986 and is seeking another term in 2026, which would be his seventh term in office.

As State Minister for Microfinance, Kasolo has been instrumental in implementing the Emyooga project, a presidential initiative aimed at wealth and job creation.

Under Emyooga, each constituency received 560 million Uganda shillings as seed capital, targeting 18 specialized enterprises, including boda-boda operators, women entrepreneurs, and journalists.
