Kabale, Uganda – The High Court in Kabale has denied bail to Detective Inspector of Police Vianny Habineza, accused of murdering a prime witness in a defilement case.

Habineza, who was attached to Bunagana Police Station, allegedly shot dead Bosco Dusabe, a Boda Boda rider, in Kisoro District on August 6, 2023.

The prosecution alleges that Habineza committed the murder to silence Dusabe, who was a key witness in a defilement case against him.

Dusabe is accused of defiling and impregnating his 16-year-old maid in February 2021.

Justice Samuel Emokor denied Habineza’s bail application, citing concerns that he could interfere with the case as a serving police officer.

Despite presenting substantial sureties, the court ruled that the grounds for granting bail had not been met, and it was in the interest of justice to deny bail.

Habineza’s lawyer, Mark Mwesigye, had argued that his client was ready to abide by all terms set by the court, but the judge ultimately decided that the risk of interference outweighed any potential benefits of granting bail.
