Mubende, Uganda – The Nva Mubende Family has unveiled a charity run aimed at supporting pregnant mothers in the Mubende community.

The event, which is part of the annual Nva Mubende Festival Season 3, will take place on January 18, 2025.

The charity run, scheduled to start at Kasaana Play Grounds at 7:00am, will cover a 12km route through various locations in Mubende, including Kifufu, Kisekende, Kirungi, Cowadisa, Makenke, Regional Referral Hospital, Katwe back to Kasaana play grounds

Participants will be required to purchase a running kit at a fee of UGX 20,000, which will also grant them access to the festival in the evening.

The proceeds from the sale of running kits will be used to purchase mother kits for distribution to hospitals in Mubende.

According to Catherine Nansamba, treasurer of Nva Mubende Family, the initiative aims to support pregnant women who face challenges in accessing essential equipment during childbirth.

“As women giving birth, we know how challenging it is, so please support us,” Nansamba said during a press conference held at Kaz Lounge and Kitchen. “Sometimes you go to the hospital without requirements because it is not easy to access it, please support us.”

Golola Moses, a renowned athlete, has been confirmed as the chief runner for the event, with negotiations underway to have Rt. Reverend Father Emmanuel Mwerikande join him.

Sureman Ssegawa, the vision bearer of Nva Mubende, confirmed that Golola Moses will lead the charity run, and expressed optimism that the event will make a significant impact in supporting pregnant mothers in Mubende.

Nva Mubende family is calling on the community to support the cause by purchasing running kits from designated selling points, including Winners at Main Street, Eriana Hardware, and Jedmart Supermarket at L. K Fuel station.

Dr. Simon Babumba, CEO of Deuces Lounge and a health worker in Mubende, praised the initiative, stating that it would add value to people’s lives and support the community.

“It’s great to add value to people’s lives using your position, and I appeal to people to love this run because it’s going to be good for our community,” Babumba said.

He added that people should not look at this as a business perspective for the vision bearer but something geared towards helping the community.

Samuel Mugisha, CEO of Kumbuzi Terrace, also commended Sureman Ssegawa for his vision, which has marketed Mubende district and instilled pride in its residents.

“I want to thank Sureman Ssegawa for his vision that has marketed Mubende district. Indeed, now people of Mubende are proud of coming from Mubende district,” Mugisha said.
