The Nation Media Group has announced the departure of Andrew Mwenda, a prominent journalist and media personality, from its flagship Friday evening talk show on KFM radio.

Mwenda, a vocal supporter of President Museveni, had been hosting the popular media roundtable discussion, which had garnered significant attention and was often compared to Kenya’s Citizen Television’s News Gang.

Mwenda’s association with the Nation Media Group comes to an end amidst a shift in his career trajectory.

Prior to his alignment with the President Museveni’s government, Mwenda was a target of threats, arrests, and prosecutions due to his investigative journalism work.

In his farewell remarks, Mwenda emphasized the need for mainstream media to adapt and innovate in the face of rising social media platforms.

He stressed the importance of in-depth investigations and analysis, rather than solely focusing on breaking news, as a way for traditional media to remain competitive.

The Nation Media Group’s decision to part ways with Andrew Mwenda doesn’t mean the end of the popular talk show.

The show will continue, likely with a new host, and will probably maintain its position as a leading media roundtable discussion in Uganda.

The Nation Media Group has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind Mwenda’s departure.
