Mubende, Uganda – Territorial police in Mubende are actively investigating a case of murder by cutting and attempted murder that occurred on March 20, 2025, at approximately 6:00 pm in Kazo E Village, Kasana parish, Kibalinga Subcounty, Mubende district.
The deceased, identified as Katugunda Expedito, a 38-year-old male resident of Kazo E Village, was found dead alongside the road with severe head injuries inflicted by a sharp panga.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, Kiiza Robert, a 48-year-old casual laborer, was armed with the panga and immediately fled the scene after committing the crime.
Approximately 500 meters away from the initial crime scene, Kiiza allegedly encountered Tugumisiriza Beatrice, a 55-year-old female, in her garden and cut her, leaving her in critical condition.
The victim was rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, where she is currently receiving medical attention.
A task team led by the District Police Commander (DPC) of Mubende visited the scene of the crime, which has been examined and documented.
The police have collected evidence and spoken to eyewitnesses to piece together the events surrounding the murder and attempted murder.
The body of the deceased, Katugunda Expedito, lies in the hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examination.
The police are working to establish the motive behind the attack and to ensure that justice is served.
In a dramatic turn of events, the suspect, Kiiza Robert, was rescued by police from an angry mob that sought to lynch him on March 21, 2025, at approximately 9:00 am.
Kiiza has been taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, and investigations are ongoing.
The police spokesperson for the Wamala Region, SP Kawala Rachael, has confirmed that the investigation is underway and urged the public to cooperate with the authorities to ensure justice is served.
