The Uganda Police Force has launched an investigation into the sudden and tragic death of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Julius Ahimbisibwe, a former Divisional Police Commander (DPC) at Mubende Police Station in 2021.
His body was discovered on Monday morning at his home in Nsangi, Wakiso District, in what is being treated as a suspected suicide.
According to police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusoke Kituuma, initial investigations suggest that SSP Ahimbisibwe may have taken his own life by hanging.
“Our officers responded to the scene and carried out a forensic examination,” ACP Kituuma said during a press briefing. “We also recorded statements from several witnesses, including those residing with the deceased.”
The body has been taken to the city mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
While preliminary evidence points to suicide, the police emphasized the need for patience and professionalism as investigations continue.
The news of SSP Ahimbisibwe’s death has sent shockwaves through the Uganda Police Force and the wider community.
Known for his service in various key roles, including his time at Mubende police station and Jinja Road Police Station, Ahimbisibwe was regarded as a committed and experienced officer.
Fellow officers, friends, and members of the public have expressed deep sorrow over his untimely death, with many calling for psychological support services for law enforcement personnel and greater mental health awareness within the force.
The Uganda Police has pledged full transparency in the ongoing investigation, promising to share details once the post-mortem and further inquiries are concluded.
