Mbarara Nurse Judith Kyarisiima’s Kidnapping and Murder: Who’s Responsible?

Mbarara, Uganda – The shocking discovery of Judith Kyarisiima’s body in River Rwizi on September 9, 2024, has left the community reeling.

A senior midwife at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and National General Secretary for the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union, Kyarisiima’s mysterious disappearance on September 2, 2024, sparked an extensive search effort.

Local residents, police, and authorities scoured the area, but no clues emerged until her body was found seven days later in river Rwizi.

“The search was intense, but unfortunately, it ended in tragedy,” said a local resident.

The exact circumstances surrounding Kyarisiima’s death remain unclear, prompting an investigation by authorities.

“We are working to determine how she ended up in the river and the events leading to her disappearance,” said Samson Kasasira Rwizi police spokesperson.

Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital expressed deep sadness, praising Kyarisiima’s dedication and kindness.

“Judith’s selflessness and expertise saved countless lives. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched,” said the hospital in a statement.

Kyarisiima’s family, friends, and colleagues demand clarity and justice.

“Judith was more than a colleague; she was a friend and mentor. We need answers,” said a fellow nurse.

The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union also mourned Kyarisiima’s loss, highlighting her tireless advocacy for nurses’ rights.

In a twist, police arrested four individuals to aid in the investigation:

Kyarisiima’s husband, Denis- a family friend, Princess- a domestic worker at the Kyarisiima residence, Alex- an employee at Ubuntu Drug Shop, owned by Kyarisiima.

The arrests aim to uncover potential motives and shed light on the events surrounding Kyarisiima’s disappearance and murder.

Kyarisiima’s body was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
