Police in Kassanda District have arrested three people in connection with a store breaking and theft case at Musana Plywood Factory, a Chinese-owned company in Lubumba LC1, Myanzi Parish, Myanzi Sub-county.
According to police, unknown people broke into the factory store on the night of 08/07/2026 and stole several items.
The stolen items include:
1. Three water pumps
2. One grinding machine
3. One drilling machine
4. One compressor and other equipment
The total value of the stolen items is estimated at UGX 21,300,000.
The case was reported at Kassanda Police Station by the factory manager and translator, Mr. Baba Solomon.
The Scene of Crimes Officer visited and processed the scene. A police canine was also used and led officers towards Katooke Village in Kassanda. Along the way, officers recovered some of the stolen items that had been dropped. The dog later lost the trail, but police continued with intelligence-led operations in the area.
Arrests Made
On 09/07/2026, police arrested two suspects, Opio Charles and Atuhaire George, both former workers at the factory.
During questioning, the two confessed to breaking into the store. They told police they were five in total and that they took the stolen items to the home of a one “Musilamu” in Katooke Village, Kassanda.
On 11/07/2026 at around 9:00am, another suspect identified as Ramer, a current worker at the factory, was also arrested.
Police say Atuhaire George and Ramer were active employees at the time of the theft, while Opio Charles and the two others still at large were former employees.
Exhibits Recovered, Manhunt Continues
All the stolen equipment has been recovered. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining two suspects.
The suspects will be produced in court once the Resident State Attorney in Kassanda district sanctions charges of store breaking and theft against them.
Police Appeal
SSP Lameck Kigozi, the Police Spokesperson for Wamala Region, warned workers against stealing from their employers.
“We appeal to our people employed by investors in the region to resist the temptation of stealing. It may not only attract penal action to the suspects but may also scare away potential investors in the region,”_ SSP Kigozi said.
