MUBENDE — A 38-year-old woman has died after allegedly being assaulted by her husband during a domestic dispute in Kitenga Sub-county, Mubende District.
Police say the incident occurred on the night of 6th July 2026 at Kabulooka Village, Gogonya Parish, Kitenga Sub-county.
The suspect, Byaruhanga Daniel, 45, a peasant, reportedly had a disagreement with his wife, Kyarisima Merabo, 38, which escalated into a physical fight at around midnight.
According to police, Byaruhanga assaulted his wife. When her condition worsened, he rushed her to a dispensary in Kyenda Town Council before fleeing the area.
On 7th July 2026 at 09:00 hours, Kyarisima succumbed to the injuries she sustained.
A case of murder was registered at Mubende Police Station. A team of officers from the Mubende Homicide Squad visited the scene.
The scene of crime officer examined and documented the area, and statements from witnesses were recorded. The body was later conveyed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The suspect remains at large, and police say efforts are underway to apprehend him.
SSP Lameck Kigozi, Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, condemned acts of domestic violence.
“We condemn such acts that continue to claim lives. Many of these cases are attributed to excessive alcoholism, substance abuse, poverty, dishonesty, mistrust, and disrespect,” he said.
He appealed to couples to address domestic challenges constructively. “People staying together as husband and wife should guard against the above challenges for better and healthy relations in their homes,” SSP Kigozi added.
Investigations are ongoing.
