KAJJANSI TOWN COUNCIL, Uganda – A resident of Kajjansi Town Council, Sumayiya Nanyanzi, has died under tragic circumstances, sparking concerns about mental health and financial struggles in the community.
According to eyewitnesses, Sumayiya, who had been working in Jordan for six years, returned to Uganda and purchased a plot of land in Kajjansi for 9 million shillings.
She subsequently borrowed 300,000 shillings from a local money lender to cover expenses related to her return to Jordan.
However, Sumayiya was deported back to Uganda and, upon attempting to repay the loan, was informed that the money lender had sold her land to recover the debt. The loss of her property reportedly left Sumayiya feeling hopeless and overwhelmed.
Last night at about 9 pm, Sumayiya gave her phone to a friend and told her that she was going to do something unusual. She went into her father’s house, and shockingly, today morning she was found hanging in her father’s sitting room in Kajjansi.
On Monday morning, Entebbe police, together with the deceased’s parents, took her body for burial in Entebbe mortuary. Sumayiya was 27 years old.
