The Tooro Kingdom is rallying behind Crown Prince David Kiijanangoma Araali, affectionately known as Prince Kiija, who is critically ill with stage three throat cancer.

The prince, a grandson of the late George David Kamurasi Rukidi III, one of the most respected monarchs in Tooro Kingdom’s history, has been undergoing treatment in Kampala, but his condition has worsened, requiring urgent specialized care abroad.

Medical reports from reputable hospitals, including Nakasero Hospital, Kampala Hospital, Mulago Cancer Institute, and Kampala Imaging Center, confirm that Prince Kiija is suffering from esophageal cancer, which has advanced and may have affected surrounding lymph nodes and lungs.

Radiology analysis conducted by Quest Teleradiology suggests the disease has progressed, making the situation more critical and requiring advanced oncology care.

The prince, known for his outspoken nature, has drained his family’s resources fighting the illness. In an emotional appeal, he pleaded for help from friends, the Tooro community, and the government.

“I have drained all the little that I had saved together with my family. I believe government, President Museveni, and good Samaritans of Uganda can give me a second chance to live,” he said.

The estimated cost for treatment abroad is approximately Shs500 million, covering medical expenses, travel, and accommodation. Locally, the prince requires support for chemotherapy sessions at Mulago and Nakasero hospitals.

Prince Kiija’s family appeals to well-wishers, friends, and the government to support his treatment. Contributions can be made through:

The prince’s illness has brought back memories of his past endeavors, including his 2015 attempt to dethrone his cousin, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, which sparked controversy and showcased his bold personality.

Despite challenges, Prince Kiija remains a significant figure in Tooro Kingdom’s history.

As the Tooro community unites to support Prince Kiija, it’s a moment for compassion and solidarity.

His fight is a reminder of the power of community and the importance of supporting one another in times of need.
