A bus belonging to a real transport company was involved in a fatal accident on Sunday morning, killing the driver and conductor, at Kiwumpa village, Luwero town, along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
According to Sam Twiineamazima, Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, the accident occurred at around 4:00 am when the bus lost control and rammed into the rear of an Isuzu Hino truck. The victims, identified as bus driver David Mukembo and his conductor, died on the spot.
Two male passengers, whose identities are yet to be established, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Luwero General Hospital. Other occupants of both vehicles escaped unhurt.
The police spokesperson urged motorists to exercise caution on busy highways, adhere to speed limits, and follow traffic rules to prevent such tragedies.
The incident is part of a growing concern over road safety on the Kampala-Gulu highway, which has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent weeks, including an incident last Sunday where four students were injured in a collision involving a school coaster and a fuel tanker in Nakasongola district.
Authorities attribute the accidents to factors such as reckless driving, drink driving, and narrow roads.
