A 28-year-old teacher, Bukenya Fredrick, has been arrested in Mityana District for allegedly administering severe corporal punishment to a Primary Seven pupil.
The incident occurred at Nalyagonja Bright Way Junior School, where Fredrick is employed.
The victim, a female student, was accused of stealing 5,000 shillings and a mathematical set from a classmate. Fredrick reportedly ordered the victim to return the items, then tied and beat her, causing bodily harm.
A relative reported the incident to Mityana Central Police Station, and the victim underwent a medical examination. Police advised the parents to seek treatment for the child.
SSP Lameck Kigozi, Wamala Region Police spokesperson, confirmed Fredrick’s arrest, stating he will appear in court upon completion of investigations.
After visiting Bright Way Junior School, Prossy Mwajuzi, Deputy RDC Mityana District, ordered the school’s closure following the teacher’s arrest.

“Violence against learners cannot be tolerated in our schools. Children must be protected while in the care of teachers and school authorities,” she emphasized.
