The trial of six men accused of attempting to assassinate Transport minister Gen Katumba Wamala and murdering his daughter, Brenda Nantongo, has resumed with harrowing testimony from three survivors of the 2019 Cheap Hardware robbery in Nansana.

The witnesses, whose identities were concealed for security reasons, recounted the traumatic events, describing how they were shot and injured during the robbery.
A 36-year-old former storekeeper testified that he was shot in the left shoulder and thumb while fleeing the store.
A 31-year-old security worker said he was shot in the arm and thigh, while a 56-year-old real estate dealer recounted being shot in the private parts.
The real estate dealer, who had gone to buy cement, described the moments of chaos and panic as the attackers opened fire.
He fell to the floor, landing on top of the cashier, and heard one attacker demanding safe keys from the manager.
A bullet tore through his thigh and exited through his penis, shattering part of it. He was hospitalized for three days and used crutches for two weeks.
Gen Katumba Wamala, who survived the attack, has spoken publicly about the incident, stating that it was a carefully planned attempt to kill him by people who saw him as a threat. His daughter, Brenda, and driver, Haruna Kayondo, were killed in the attack.
The six accused men – Muhammad Kagugube, Sirmani Kisambira, Abdullah Aziz Ramadhan (Dunka), Kamada Walusimbi, Habib Ramadhan Marjan, and Huzaifah Wampa – face allegations including terrorism, murder, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery.
Prosecution evidence includes recovered firearms, ammunition, and other materials linking the accused to several high-profile killings and robberies.
The investigation is ongoing, with some suspects arrested and taken to court. However, many questions remain about the masterminds behind the plot.
The trial continues, with the court expected to hear more testimony and evidence in the coming weeks.
