As Uganda gears up for the pivotal 2026 general election, a sentiment is resonating widely among the populace: gratitude towards President Yoweri Museveni for his unwavering commitment to East African integration.
This appreciation is not unfounded; under his leadership, Uganda has witnessed significant strides in regional collaboration that have benefited not only the nation but the entire East African Community (EAC).

Buyinza Adam Luzindana the Team Leader of Public Opinions, articulates that the majority of Ugandans will cast their votes for Museveni, recognizing the tangible impact of his policies on regional unity.
In the lead-up to the election, voters are reflecting on the profound achievements that Museveni has orchestrated over his tenure.
The NRM manifesto for 2026 pledges to deepen the integration agenda, aligning with the historical missions of prosperity, security, and fraternity among African nations.
As Luzindana emphasizes, achieving these ambitious goals necessitates overcoming the fragmentation of the continent, a vision that President Museveni has fervently championed throughout his presidency.
The realities of individual East African states highlight the need for integration. Each country grapples with limited markets and inadequate military capabilities, making collective strength indispensable.
Museveni’s drive for regional integration is not merely a political strategy; it is a necessity for ensuring the prosperity and security of the East African people. By fostering unity among African nations, Museveni is laying the groundwork for a more formidable and self-sufficient continent.
Under Museveni’s stewardship, the EAC has made remarkable progress. The establishment of the Customs Union and the Common Market has facilitated trade and the free movement of goods and people, significantly boosting foreign export earnings and creating jobs.
The harmonization of regulations and the establishment of a Single Customs Territory are just a few examples of how Museveni has contributed to fostering an environment conducive to economic growth and innovation.
As Luzindana notes, these efforts have not only enhanced intra-regional trade but have also catalyzed the creation of job opportunities, making a meaningful difference in the lives of many Ugandans.
Infrastructure development has also been pivotal in promoting regional trade. Museveni’s government has spearheaded projects that enhance connectivity, such as the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline, the stahdard gauge railway, the steel factory in tororo, etc .
These initiatives not only facilitate commerce but also improve the overall quality of life for East Africans. The focus on digital connectivity through regional broadband networks underscores a modern vision of integration that recognizes the importance of technology in achieving economic goals.
Education has taken center stage in Museveni’s integration agenda. By establishing centers of excellence and offering free visas for students from EAC member states, President Museveni has prioritized the development of human capital.
The emphasis on education and skills development is crucial in preparing the workforce for future challenges, ensuring that East Africa remains competitive on the global stage. Many students from East africa member states are in Uganda and vise versa.
Tourism is another sector where Museveni’s vision for integration shines. By promoting East Africa as a single tourist destination through joint initiatives, he has positioned the region as an attractive hub for international visitors.
The introduction of a single East African Tourist Visa has simplified travel across member states, further enhancing the region’s appeal.
The fight against non-tariff barriers, a significant obstacle to trade, is yet another area where Museveni has made strides- Buyinza Adam Luzindana who is passionate on diplomacy and strategic engagement stated.
He noted that Initiatives like the Electronic Single Window are set to reduce the time and cost associated with clearing goods, streamlining the process for traders and benefiting the economy as a whole. This commitment to improving the efficiency of trade underscores Museveni’s dedication to enhancing regional cooperation.
As the election date approaches, it is clear that Ugandans are not just voting for a leader; they are voting for a vision—a vision of a united East Africa where shared prosperity and security are paramount.
President Museveni’s advocacy for a Political Federation represents the culmination of this dream, with ongoing discussions among regional heads of state signaling a collective commitment to this goal.
The endorsement of a Political Confederation as a transitional step toward full federation illustrates the determination of EAC leaders to forge a cohesive political entity.
In this context, Buyinza Adam Luzindana’s assertion rings true: Ugandans will vote for Museveni on January 15, 2025, not just for his past achievements but for the promise of a brighter, more integrated future.
As one of the fastest-growing regional economic blocs globally, the EAC stands as a testament to the progress made under Museveni’s leadership. His vision for a united East Africa is not just aspirational; it is a blueprint for sustainable development and collective success.
In conclusion, President Museveni’s relentless efforts to champion East African integration have laid a strong foundation for the future. As Uganda prepares to head to the polls, the electorate is poised to recognize and appreciate the myriad ways in which Museveni’s leadership has fostered regional unity and collaboration.
With the backing of a grateful populace, Museveni is set to continue his journey toward actualizing the dream of a politically and economically integrated East Africa.
