The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has launched the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) Examinations, urging striking teachers to temporarily suspend their industrial action to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exams.
In a press statement, UNEB appealed to teachers to “accept and join us for a few days of the conduct of candidates.”
The Board also cautioned politicians against interfering with the examination process, warning those contracted to participate in the exams to “desist from active involvement in political campaigns” during the examination period.
Additionally, UNEB urged political aspirants to avoid holding rallies at school playgrounds, which could disrupt the candidates’ focus.
This year’s UCE examination will see a significant increase in candidate numbers, with 432,159 students sitting for the exams.
The Board has made special arrangements for 679 Special Needs Education (SNE) candidates, employing 190 support personnel to ensure their participation is facilitated.
UNEB emphasized that the examination’s purpose “is to assess the candidates’ level of achievement and not to fail the learners.” The 2025 UCE examinations will be conducted in 4,308 centers across the country.
