Kampala, Uganda – In a brazen and alarming incident, Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) chairman of mobilisation, and Waisswa Mufumbiro, the party’s deputy spokesman, have been abducted by gun-wielding men in plain clothes.
According to sources, the abduction occurred around Kubiri, shortly after Ssentamu had left a meeting at the NUP party headquarters.
Ssentamu was waylaid and pulled out of his car by the abductors, who then drove off in a drone. Mufumbiro was also taken by the same group of men.
This incident comes on the heels of a recent parade at the NUP headquarters, where supporters were seen donning red uniforms and marching in a military-style formation, led by none other than Fred Nyanzi himself.
Moreover, Ssentamu’s abduction comes shortly after a threatening message was posted on X, formerly Twitter, by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, President Museveni’s son and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
The message hinted at unleashing chaos on several leaders, including those from the National Unity Platform, such as Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, who is Fred Nyanzi’s older brother and the leader of the opposition.
The NUP has condemned the abduction, stating that the regime is “clearly in panic” as the party intensifies its efforts to demand the release of all political prisoners.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of opposition leaders and activists in Uganda.
The NUP has called for calm and urged its supporters to remain vigilant, while demanding Ssentamu’s and Mufumbiro’s immediate release.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
