Kampala, Uganda – Doreen Nyanjura, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Kampala, has spoken out about the tragic death of her brother, Tugume AlbertCook Apuuli, who was shot dead by gunmen on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
According to Nyanjula’s Facebook post, the incident occurred at Albert’s mobile money and agent banking shop on Ntinda Kiwatule Road (Muvule, Central Road) at around 8:00 pm.
Nyanjula revealed that her brother attempted to flee from the gunmen but was shot three times. The assailants then took off with his bag containing money, mobile agent lines, and bank agent machines on a waiting boda boda. A boda boda rider, Barnabas, who tried to intervene, was also shot and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital.
The family has announced that a church service for Albert Cook will be held today, Friday, at 2:00 pm at St. Luke Church Ntinda, followed by the transportation of his body to Nyamabuga, Rugombe Town Council in Kyenjojo District for burial.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout Kampala, and Nyanjula’s revelation has sparked an outpouring of condolences and support for the family.
Luke Oweyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, confirmed the incident on Twitter, stating that Kira Road Police responded to a scene of aggravated robbery in Ntinda, resulting in one fatality and injuries.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
