Mityana, Uganda – A tragic incident occurred on October 20, 2025, at around 5:00 pm in Butega Village, Kabuwambo Ward, Ttamu Division, Mityana Municipality, Mityana District, resulting in the death of 4-year-old Mutagwanya Angello Darius, a pupil at Cosna Primary School.
According to preliminary reports, the young boy was swept away by floodwaters while attempting to cross a stick bridge near his home.
The heavy rains had caused the water level to rise, and despite his efforts, Darius was carried away by the strong currents.
The body was later discovered lifeless by his parents, and a postmortem was conducted. The body has since been handed over to the relatives for burial.
The Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, SP Kawala Racheal, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing.
In a statement, SP Kawala urged the public to exercise caution during heavy rains, avoiding unnecessary movements during downpours.
She also emphasized the importance of schools ensuring the safety of children, particularly during extreme weather conditions.
Thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.
