Police in Kassanda are investigating a shocking incident in which a woman disguised herself as a medical officer and abducted a three-day-old baby from Kiganda Health Center.
The baby, a girl, was born to Muhindo Joachim and Nalubowa Ruth of Katosi Cell, Kiganda town council, Kassanda district, on March 12, 2026.
The newborn was receiving treatment at the health center due to complications but was recovering well.
On March 15, 2026, the suspect, posing as a medical officer, entered the postnatal ward and approached the baby’s mother.
She claimed the baby’s condition was deteriorating and needed urgent medication, giving the mother 10,000 shillings to purchase the medicine from a pharmacy outside the facility.
The mother left the ward, and the suspect took the opportunity to flee with the baby.
A report was made at Kiganda police station, and authorities are appealing to the public for information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
“We appeal to anyone in Kiganda town, Kassanda district, and Wamala region at large who may come across a woman with a newly born baby, yet she was not known to be pregnant or expecting, to inform nearby police,” said SSP Lameck Kigozi, Police spokesperson for Wamala Region.
