Mbarara, Uganda – November 28, 2025
The Uganda Police Force has arrested a 27-year-old boda boda rider, Richard Agumaniiwe, in connection with an attempted murder incident involving a senior police officer. Agumaniiwe, a resident of Katojo Cell in Katojo Ward, Mbarara City South Division, was taken into custody following a video of the incident that circulated widely.
According to preliminary findings, the incident occurred on Monday at around 4:00 pm at the Kikona-Ruti Town Road junction along the Mbarara-Kabale Road.
SP Ocaya Kennedy, the Officer in Charge of Mbarara City South Division, was on duty, clearing the road for President Museveni’s motorcade, which was heading to Mbarara City for a campaign rally.
The suspect allegedly ignored instructions to clear the road for the presidential convoy and instead continued at high speed, intentionally knocking SP Ocaya and injuring him.
The police have confirmed the arrest and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Uganda Police Force has condemned the attack on its officer and assured the public that it will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of its personnel.
