The National Unity Platform (NUP) has reshuffled its leadership in Mubende District, appointing Pafuladito Kyeyune, the former Kkunga NUP Chairman, as the new district chairperson.
This move is part of the party’s strategy to consolidate its influence in Buganda ahead of the 2026 elections.
The restructuring, overseen by the party’s Central Region Mobilization Chairperson, Faridah Nabatanzi, and Greater Mubende focal person, Deguele Kawuma, aims to strengthen NUP’s base in Mubende.
During a meeting at the NUP offices in Kirungi Cell, Nabatanzi commended party members for their resilience in keeping Mubende politically active.
As part of the restructuring, a new policy was announced, barring in-service leaders seeking parliamentary seats from holding party positions.
This directive led to the exit of Peter Baleke Kayiira, former Publicity Secretary, and Steven Ndagizimaana, former Vice Chairperson, both of whom are contesting for MP seats in Buwekula County.
The new leadership lineup includes:
- Pafuladito Kyeyune: District Chairperson
- Johnson Sserubiri: Deputy District Chairperson
- Damasen Kakooza: General Secretary
- Kanyike Silver: Publicity Secretary
- Geoffrey Muganza: Finance Secretary
Kyeyune pledged to strengthen NUP’s base in Mubende, emphasizing the need for unity and commitment.
He also introduced newly elected constituency leaders, including Moses Musasizi Ssemata for Mubende Municipality and Sam Kaanakayeesu for Buwekula South.
Damasen Kakooza, the new General Secretary, praised outgoing leaders for their service, promising to build on their foundation as the party prepares for the 2026 elections.
Kanyike Silver, the new Publicity Secretary and aspiring mayor for East Division, Mubende Municipal, pledged to do more than what is expected of him for the party.
“I will ensure that our party’s message reaches every corner of Mubende, and I call upon all party members to stand in solidarity as we move forward together,” he said.
With the new leadership in place, NUP is poised to intensify its campaign efforts in Mubende and beyond.
