Kampala, Uganda – The National Unity Platform (NUP) is expected to announce its candidates for the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election and the Kazo-Angola councillor by-election today.

The Kawempe North parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9, 2025.

Ten aspirants have been cleared to contest for the NUP ticket, including Luwemba Lusswa Muhammad, a former aide to the late MP, lawyer Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, Umar Magara, Saulo Kulya Zziwa, Serunkuuma Salim (also known as Mafu Mafu), Kakyika Fredrick, Dr. Charles Rubagumya, Eng. Ssenkungu Kenneth, Mathias Mulumba, and Moses Nsereko.

Our team of experts has been in Kawempe North to interact with the people and understand who they believe will best represent their needs,” Rubongoya explained.
