Sumayah Nabawanuka, a National Unity Platform (NUP) aspirant for the Mubende Municipality Member of Parliament seat, has stirred controversy within the party by declaring that she will not support anyone who is given the party ticket if it’s not her.
Nabawanuka, who previously contested the Woman MP seat for Mubende District on the NUP ticket but lost, made the statement on 106.0 Mubende FM’s program “Omuntu Wabulijjo” hosted by Kibalama Yusuf.
Nabawanuka’s declaration has raised questions about her motivations and commitment to the party’s principles.
According to her, “I will not support anyone given the card if not me, because whoever will be given the card will be powerful enough so will not need my support.”
This stance contradicts NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s repeated calls for contestants to rally behind the party’s chosen candidate to ensure unity and success.
The NUP race for the Mubende Municipality MP seat has attracted three candidates:
- Sumayah Nabawanuka: Previous Woman MP aspirant for Mubende District
- Bob Richard Kyamanywa: Contested the same position in 2021
- Ismael Ssegawa alias Sureman Ssegawa: Gained momentum with a strong ground support
Nabawanuka’s words have left Mubende residents wondering if she’s genuinely committed to change or just seeking the position for personal interests.
