Theodore Ssekikubo, Member of Parliament for Lwemiyaga County, has clarified that the recent court ruling upholding the Shs1.7 billion Service Award to four Parliamentary Commissioners does not affect his censure motion against them.

Ssekikubo emphasized that his motion addresses different concerns than the court case and remains unaffected by the ruling. He is waiting for notification on when to debate the motion.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa acknowledged Ssekikubo’s reference to Rule 110(5), which allows 10 days for action, and assured that communication will be made soon.

The debate follows a High Court ruling that upheld the Service Award but called for reforms to prevent unchecked awards, warning of potential depletion of national funds.

Justice Douglas Karekona Singiza’s ruling recommended disciplinary action against the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, and highlighted concerns about government agencies and politicians awarding themselves monetary prizes, risking depletion of the nation’s coffers.
