Kampala – In a landmark resolution, Hon. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire has conceded defeat in the contentious Makerere land dispute, paving the way for Miriam Kuteesa to reclaim ownership.
This development marks the culmination of a grueling 15-year legal and bureaucratic battle.
A decisive meeting held today in the boardroom brought an end to the prolonged legal struggles that saw Kuteesa relentlessly fight to have the land title registered in her name.
As we reported last night, the meeting was anticipated to mark a historic resolution to the long-standing dispute.

In a rare moment of calm and acceptance, Gen. Otafiire, who had for years maintained his claim over the land, gave way to the Commissioner of Land Registration to effect the long-awaited change.
This decision signified a significant shift in Gen. Otafiire’s stance, as he had previously been adamant about his claim to the land.
Overcome with emotion, Kuteesa broke down in tears upon seeing Gen. Otafiire accept the handover.

Speaking exclusively to BinocularUG, a visibly weak and ailing Kuteesa expressed her deep gratitude.
“This is a moment I never thought would come so soon. I thank Gen. Otafiire for finally letting go and allowing justice to prevail. I also extend my gratitude to the Commissioner of Land Registration for overseeing this resolution and ensuring that due process was followed. Above all, I thank President Museveni for creating an enabling environment that allowed me to fight for my property without fear,” Kuteesa said, her voice breaking with emotion.
The legal dispute had its roots in a contested allocation of land in Kyadondo Block 28, covering plots 1244, 1245, 1246, 1248, and 1249 (formerly Plot 540) at Makerere.
Over the years, multiple court rulings and administrative interventions were made, but the matter remained unresolved until this final landmark decision.
Gen. Otafiire, known for his assertive and unrelenting approach in previous land battles, appeared uncharacteristically subdued during the proceedings.
While he did not offer extensive remarks, his decision to relinquish the land without further contention signified an acceptance of the legal realities surrounding the case.
The Commissioner of Land Registration emphasized the importance of resolving land conflicts through lawful channels, urging aggrieved parties in similar disputes to seek redress in courts and avoid illegal dealings.
For Kuteesa, today marks the end of a long and painful journey. She symbolizes triumph against adversity—a testament to the resilience of those who fight for what is rightfully theirs.
