Kampala, Uganda – Juma Musuuza, alias Madubarah, a 27-year-old second-hand shoe hawker and popular TikToker, has been remanded to prison for allegedly demeaning the First Family of Uganda.
Entebbe Chief Magistrate Stella Maris Amabilis made the ruling.
Madubarah is accused of saying, “If Museveni hands over power to his drunkard son, the country will be destroyed within two days, let Ugandans pray for our country and ourselves.”
He also allegedly made demeaning comments about Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among, stating, “Using taxpayers’ money to build a mansion which is better than state house and bleaching jelly (chemicals)”.
According Ms Janet Kitimbo, the state attorney , Madubarah used TikTok to share information likely to ridicule President Museveni, his son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and Speaker Anita.
He further stated, “If Muhoozi takes over power from his father, the country will be destroyed within two days according to how he drinks and whoever talks, we shall kill or arrest you”.
This arrest marks the fifth instance in less than a week of a Ugandan TikToker being remanded to prison for similar reasons. Others facing similar charges include:
Emmanuel Nabugodi, 21, convicted of hate speech and spreading malicious information about President Museveni.
David Ssengoozi, also known as Luck Choice, 21, expected to return to court on November 25
Julius Tayebwa, 19, facing similar charges and returning to court on November 25
Isaiah Ssekagiri, 28, on remand and awaiting trial
He will return to court on November 27 for further hearing.
