Exiled Ugandan writer and lawyer Kakwenza Rukirabashaija has strongly criticized the alleged abduction of Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye from Nairobi.
Dr. Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate, was last seen on Saturday attending NARC party leader Martha Karua’s book launch in Kenya’s capital.
Winnie Byanyima, Dr. Besigye’s wife, has issued an urgent plea for his release, stating that he was kidnapped last Saturday and is now being held in a military jail in Kampala.
She questioned the reasoning behind detaining a civilian in a military facility and demanded access for his family and legal team.
Rukirabashaija, known for his critical stance against the Museveni regime, took to social media platform X to denounce the alleged involvement of both Kenyan and Ugandan governments.
He described the situation as “absurd,” stating that “Despot William Ruto together with despot Kaguta Museveni have made hell for Ugandans who visit Kenya”.
As a vocal critic of President Yoweri Museveni, Rukirabashaija has faced similar challenges, including arrest and torture for his writings.
