    FEAR GRIPS MITYANA OFFICIALS AS ATTACKS ESCALATE: MAYOR AND DEPUTY RDC AMONG VICTIMS

    Mityana, Uganda – A wave of attacks has left leaders in Mityana living in fear.

    The latest incidents involve the Mayor of Mityana Municipal Council, Mr. Mukambwe Lukonge Faustino, and the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ms. Mrs.Mwanjuzi Prossy.

    On August 6, 2024, the mayor was robbed at his home in the early hours of the morning.

    Unknown assailants armed with pangas and wearing cloth face masks attacked his residence at Kayunga Kimemete Cell, Central Division, Mityana Municipality, at approximately 02:45 am.

    The thugs demanded money, threatening the mayor’s life and damaging the window glass.

    The mayor handed over UGX 900,000 and his phone through the window, and the suspects fled the scene.

    Earlier, on May 31, the deputy RDC’s vehicle was torched by unknown assailants outside her residence in Mityana Town.

    The incident occurred at around 10 pm when the deputy RDC’s vehicle, a Toyota Premio, was parked outside her home.

    The assailants poured petrol on the vehicle and set it ablaze, causing extensive damage.

    Ms. Mwanjuzi had received threatening messages prior to the incident.

    Police have launched investigations into both incidents and are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

    The Mityana District Police Commander, SP Racheal Kawala, confirmed that the police are following leads and assured the public that they are doing everything possible to ensure the perpetrators are caught and brought to justice.
