Kyankwanzi, Uganda – On September 12, 2024, a devastating discovery was made in Kiryanongo village, Kyankwanzi District, when police found the body of 1.8-month-old Nambuya Majorine in a pit latrine.

The Uganda Police Force has arrested two suspects in connection with the horrific crime:

    1. Nabakoza Kasifa, 35, the baby’s stepmother, resident of Kiryanongo village.
    2. Batala, 30, a casual laborer from Kiryanongo village.

According to police reports, the baby’s parents, Katende Geofrey and Nakafeero Tolofisa, residents of Kiryanongo village, had left their child in the care of her 8-year-old brother while they went gardening.

During this time, the baby went to her stepmother’s neighboring home, where the tragic events unfolded.

Nabakoza Kasifa sent the children to pick quails, leaving the baby alone with her and Batala. When the children returned, Nabakoza Kasifa claimed the baby was missing, prompting an immediate search.

Tragically, the search party found the baby’s lifeless body in a newly dug pit latrine behind her parents’ house.

Autopsy results have confirmed that the baby died from strangulation after being sexually assaulted.

The Uganda Police Force strongly condemns this heinous act and assures the public that justice will be served.

“The perpetrators of this horrific crime will face the full force of the law,” said SP Racheal Kawala, Police Spokesperson for the Wamala Region.

“We condemn such acts of violence, especially against vulnerable children. We assure the public that investigations are ongoing, and justice will be served.”

Nabakoza Kasifa and Batala are currently being held at Kyankwanzi police station as investigations continue.

Police urge anyone with information regarding this crime to come forward.
