Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Education has issued a stern warning to parents ahead of the new school term: refrain from providing mobile phones to students.

This warning comes despite recent calls to allow students to use phones in school, citing the new curriculum introduced in Uganda.

Dr. John Cryesistom Muyingo, state minister for Higher Education, emphasized that the ministry has not yet made a final decision on the matter.

“We urge parents to adhere to the current guidelines and not provide phones to students until we conclude our review,” Dr. Muyingo stated.

The minister also directed schools to be vigilant and conduct thorough checks on students returning to school to ensure they do not bring phones.

“The ministry is still deliberating on this issue, and we will provide a final answer in due course,” Dr. Miyingo assured.

Parents and guardians are advised to cooperate with the ministry’s directive to maintain discipline and focus on academic excellence.

The Ministry of Education will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on its decision regarding phone usage in schools.

The official opening of the third term begins on Monday, 16-09-2024.
