In a bid to curb rising violent crime, the police have declared they will not hesitate to use maximum force, including deadly force, against perpetrators who engage in confrontations with law enforcement.

    Commissioner Paul Nyathi

This stance comes as the police have activated specialized teams and allocated sufficient resources to tackle criminal syndicates nationwide.

Recently, two robbery gangs were dismantled, resulting in the arrest of several members and the fatal shooting of two robbers in Harare.

The police have recovered multiple firearms and rounds of ammunition from the suspects.

According to the police, their response to robbery cases will be proportionate to the situation, and they will not hesitate to use force if suspects engage in confrontations. This tough stance follows the arrest of three members of a five-man gang of armed robbers in Harare over the weekend.

Raymond Mugabe, 39, was fatally shot in a shootout with detectives in Chinamhora, while Kenneth Chiputura, 50, and Jaison Munyapa, 18, were arrested.

The suspects are linked to 10 cases of robbery, including a security company heist where US$142,995 and six firearms were stolen, and a service station robbery where US$10,650 was stolen.

The police have assured the public that they will continue to take decisive action against violent criminals to ensure a peaceful and crime-free environment.
