In the last days, we have been seeing a lot of news about Sironko district NRM leadership. This started during the belated women’s day celebrations when the NRM boss was denied an opportunity to speak and welcome Prime Minister Rt Hon Nabbanja.
The prime minister heard people complaining about how the NRM boss who is the pillar of the party was treated and immediately ordered the organizing committee to recognize him and allow him to speak.
It is alleged that the biggest challenge of the NRM in Sironko district is the power struggle between the now Minister of Karamoja who is the Woman MP on an independent ticket and Asha Nabulo who is the flag bearer and minister’s opponent and a daughter of Al Hajji Lumolo.
During the recently appointed Asst RDCs and RCCs, we saw the minister’s driver who is also a parish chief and her personal assistant appointed in charge of Sironko even after the office of the president requested the NRM office to identify NRM cadres to be appointed.
This created a lot of controversy and currently, the NRM party in Sironko is divided.
Many supporters have been forced to abandon the party citing that if Lumolo is undermined what can we do and who can listen to our cries?
A one Simbata was quoted saying that no one is above the party, let deals not divide the NRM leaders to decide for the party. How can a personal assistant and driver to a minister be put in charge of positions as if there are no other NRM cadres who are jobless?
Another one said that Lumolo’s children are also Ugandans and if they contest against anyone it’s not their father’s fault, people should not fear competition but rather do their role so that they are embraced.
Undermining Hajji Lumolo might cost the NRM party because he is the godfather of the party currently in Bugisu.
Lumolo’s daughter was heard saying that she will soon call for a press conference and denounce the party incase it will help the people of Sironko to equitably be supported rather than always torturing her because of his father, if all along the party has been seeing her as a stumbling block for its success he can leave it to someone who can do better.
Sironko has been the breeding centre of FDC in Uganda since the FDC Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi hails from there and even producing a councillor was a challenge not until Al Hajji Lumolo came in and streamlined.
Currently, NRM Is On The Spot On
In Bugisu sub-region Sironko has the biggest number of administrative structures and real voters (42 sub-counties and town councils, 226 parishes and 1545 villages).
Where is this leaving Sironko district and why did Hon Milly Babalanda resort to dropping the NRM party leadership and working with people who instead fight the party?
