In a press conference held at Joyce Hotel, Lubega Joseph, popularly known as Jozana, has officially announced his candidacy for the Mayor position in Mubende Municipality’s East Division under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) banner.

As the current NRM Chairman for East Division, Jozana’s decision marks a significant development in the lead-up to the general elections.

“The current state of affairs in our council is unacceptable,” Jozana stated. “The personal battles between our leaders have gone on for too long, and it’s time for us to focus on delivering services to our people.”

He specifically referenced the ongoing indirect feud between the incumbent division mayor and the council speaker, which has reportedly hindered progress over the past three years.

Jozana outlined his platform, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in council proceedings.

“We need to give our people an opportunity to know what is being debated in the council and hold us accountable every year,” he said.

He also pledged to educate residents on taxation, including the levying and payment processes, and highlighted infrastructure development, particularly the construction of a bridge, as a priority area for his administration.

The next step in Jozana’s bid is to secure nomination forms from the NRM and submit them within the stipulated timeframe.

If successful in the party primaries, Jozana is likely to face competition from several candidates, including Kanyike Sylvester, who is reportedly interested in contesting for the same position on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, although he has not yet been issued with the party card.

“We are ready to take over the leadership of East Division and bring about the change our people deserve,” Jozana declared.

The emergence of new candidates in Mubende Municipality’s electoral landscape may indicate voter dissatisfaction with current leadership and their service delivery.

As the electoral process progresses, residents of East Division will be closely monitoring developments and evaluating candidates’ potential to address pressing needs and concerns.
