Entebbe, Uganda – Ruth Achan, the wife of notorious Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) commander Joseph Kony, has returned to Uganda along with their children.
The family arrived at Entebbe International Airport on February 26, 2025, after being transferred from the Central African Republic.
Achan and her children, Maisa Amu, Betty Akidi, and Pope Kony, were received by Uganda’s State Minister for Northern Uganda, Kenneth Omona, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The family is expected to be resettled in Gulu, a town in northern Uganda.
Joseph Kony, the elusive LRA leader, remains at large with a $5 million (approximately Shs17 billion) US bounty on his head. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
The group has been responsible for widespread human rights abuses, including abductions, killings, and forced conscription of children.
The Ugandan government has been working to reintegrate former LRA combatants and their families into civilian life. The resettlement of Achan and her children in Gulu is part of this effort.
