National Unity Platform Leader Bobi Kyagulanyi delivered an emotional eulogy at the burial of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, a member of parliament representing Kawempe North.
Ssegirinya passed away after a prolonged battle with health challenges.
Kyagulanyi praised Ssegirinya as a self-made man who rose from humble beginnings to become a prominent figure in Ugandan politics.
He highlighted Ssegirinya’s commitment to serving the people, particularly the downtrodden, and his unwavering dedication to the cause of justice and equality.
Kyagulanyi recalled how he first met Ssegirinya as a radio caller and later as a city councillor.
He noted that Ssegirinya was one of the few opposition politicians who fully supported him during his campaign for the Kyadondo East parliamentary seat in 2017, even when his own party, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), had a candidate.
Kyagulanyi also criticized the regime of President Yoweri Museveni, accusing them of conspiring against Ssegirinya and ultimately leading to his death.
He expressed outrage at the regime’s attempts to silence Ssegirinya and other opposition voices, citing the numerous arrests, torture, and killings of political opponents.
As Kyagulanyi spoke, he noted that many political prisoners remain incarcerated, including Dr. Kizza Besigye, who was recently charged with unlawful possession of firearms and remanded to Luzira prison.

Kyagulanyi also mentioned comrades Machete and Kalanzi, among others, who are still behind bars. Furthermore, he highlighted the alarming fact that over 18 people are still missing, some of whom were abducted as far back as 2019 and 2020.
Kyagulanyi’s voice was filled with emotion as he declared,
“No evil will go unpunished. We are crying today like we have done many times when our people are killed. But I believe there will be a time when Museveni and his criminal gang will pay for every crime they have committed against the people of Uganda.”
Kyagulanyi’s eulogy was a call to action, urging Ugandans to continue fighting for a better future.
He emphasized that Ssegirinya’s legacy would live on, inspiring future generations to stand up for their rights and demand justice.
As Kyagulanyi concluded his eulogy, he addressed Ssegirinya directly, saying, “Fight hard, Mr. Update.
Yes, you said that when you die, we should not tell you to rest in peace but to fight hard. Go on and fight. Mobilise those who were murdered like yourself and fight on, so that your children, the Nagirinyas can grow up in a better country. Till we meet again, my brother.”
Ssegirinya’s burial was attended by thousands of mourners, including politicians, activists, and ordinary citizens who came to pay their respects to the fallen leader.
The burial was also attended by Ssegirinya’s family, including his mother, who had been a vocal advocate for her son’s release from prison.
Many of the mourners expressed outrage at the regime’s treatment of Ssegirinya and other opposition voices, and vowed to continue fighting for a better future.
