The festive season has turned into a nightmare for travelers heading to their hometowns, as a section of the Mityana-Mubende Highway has become impassable due to slippery road conditions.
The affected area, located at Kalonga, has resulted in traffic congestion, further exacerbated by ongoing maintenance works.
Travelers have been forced to spend the night on the road, braving the cold and uncertainty, as they wait for the road to be cleared.
The situation has left many stranded and frustrated, with some taking to social media to express their discontent.
To mitigate the situation, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has advised motorists to use an alternative route.
Drivers are instructed to divert at Myanzi and proceed via the Kassanda-Maddudu-Kiyuuya road, turning left to re-connect to the Mubende Highway.

Motorists are cautioned that the diversion is a gravel road, although it is motorable.
Additionally, the alternative route will add approximately 25 kilometers to their journey.
UNRA has apologized for the inconvenience and appreciates the public’s understanding as they work to restore normal traffic flow.
The authority’s teams are working swiftly to address the bottleneck and ensure the road is safe for travel.
