The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the promotion of five Brigadier Generals to the rank of Acting Major General.
This development was made public through a statement issued by Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF’s Director of Defence Public Information, on December 11.
The promoted officers include Brigadier General Stephen Mugerwa, Commander of the 1st Infantry Division, Brigadier General Paul Muhanguzi, head of the 2nd Infantry Division, Brigadier General Felix Busizori, in charge of the 4th Infantry Division, and Brigadier General Keith Katungi, leading the 5th Infantry Division.
According to sources, these promotions are part of a broader effort to strengthen leadership and align roles within the UPDF.
The move is also seen as a strategic restructuring within the defence forces, aimed at ensuring that key appointments correspond with appropriate ranks under the UPDF’s new establishment framework.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced the promotions and confirmations of division commanders in a circular dated December 11, 2024 .
The UPDF fraternity has congratulated the newly promoted general officers and wished them success in their assigned responsibilities.
