Kampala, Uganda – The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has dismissed allegations that its National Treasurer, Benjamin Katana, has defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

A screenshot circulating on social media claimed Katana had joined NRM and would contest the Igara parliamentary seat on the party’s ticket.

NUP described the allegations as “cheap propaganda” aimed at dividing the party and sowing discord among its members.

“The Museveni regime will stop at nothing to divide and keep us suspicious of each other, including peddling false information against our committed leaders,” NUP said in a statement.

NUP urged its supporters to treat the allegations with contempt.

“We call upon our supporters to dismiss this baseless rumor with all the contempt it deserves,” the party stated.
