As the rainy season sets in, the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety has issued a weather alert, reminding all motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads.
The onset of the rainy season brings with it hazardous driving conditions, including fog, mist, heavy rainfall, flooded roads, and reduced visibility.
To ensure safety on the roads, the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety has issued a set of guidelines for motorists to follow.
These guidelines include:
- Maintaining vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition, including checking tires, brakes, and lights.
- Slowing down and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles.
- Avoiding flooded areas, as it can be difficult to gauge the depth and may cause vehicles to stall or be swept away.
- Increasing visibility by using headlights and ensuring windshield wipers are in good condition.
- Avoiding overtaking, especially in poor visibility conditions.
- Pulling over and waiting until conditions improve if visibility is extremely poor.
By following these simple yet crucial safety tips, motorists can significantly reduce the risk of crashes and ensure a safe journey.
The Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety emphasizes that safety is everyone’s responsibility and urges motorists to stay vigilant, drive responsibly, and arrive alive.
This weather alert and safety guidelines were issued by Sp. Kananura Micahel, CLO-Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety.
