Mubende, Uganda – In a surprising move, Ismael Ssegawa, alias Sureman Ssegawa, a prominent member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and aspiring parliamentary candidate for Mubende Municipality, has declared that he will not pursue an independent bid after losing the party’s ticket.
Ssegawa, who was inspired to join politics by NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, alias Bobi Wine, expressed his gratitude to the party for the opportunity to contest and to the people of Mubende for their support.
After joining the party, Ssegawa played a significant role in mobilizing support for NUP, particularly among the youth in Mubende, and his efforts helped to popularize the party’s message in the region.
Despite having built a strong grassroots following and being widely regarded as a potential winner in the constituency, Ssegawa conceded to the party’s decision to award the ticket to another candidate.
In a statement this evening, Ssegawa emphasized that he would not prioritize personal interests over the party’s unity and bigger cause.
“Am not coming back independent, 5 years are not much to wait,” he said, urging his supporters to accept the party’s decision.
Ssegawa’s announcement demonstrates his commitment to the NUP’s ideals and his willingness to put the party’s interests ahead of personal ambitions.
His decision is likely to be seen as a show of maturity and loyalty to the party leadership.
The NUP party leadership’s decision to award the ticket to another candidate has been a subject of speculation, but Ssegawa’s reaction is expected to calm tensions within the party ranks.
Ssegawa’s supporters have been vocal about their desire to see him represent Mubende Municipality in parliament, but he has urged them to remain calm and focused on the bigger picture.
Ssegawa’s statement is a testament to his dedication to the NUP’s mission and his trust in the party’s leadership.
As the party prepares for future elections, Ssegawa’s loyalty and commitment are likely to be valuable assets in the pursuit of democratic change in Uganda.
