Kampala, Uganda – In a significant development, the Parliament of Uganda has approved the nominees for the Health Service Commission, a crucial body responsible for overseeing the country’s healthcare system.

The appointments, made by President Yoweri Museveni, include Dr. Henry Mwebasa as the chairperson and Ms. Christine Kakuru Kyomuhangi as the vice chairperson.

Earlier on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, the Appointments Committee of Parliament met to review the qualifications and profiles of the individuals nominated by the President.

Speaker Anita Among addressed the meeting, stating that the vetting process was an essential procedure in ensuring that the nominees were suitable for the roles they had been nominated for.

The Speaker emphasized that the Appointments Committee’s task was to thoroughly scrutinize the qualifications of the nominees to ensure they met the necessary standards for their positions.

She confirmed that once the vetting process was complete, the committee’s findings would be submitted to the President as required by parliamentary procedures.

The other nominees who were vetted for the Health Service Commission include Thomas Ocwa Obua, Dr. Mary Namubiru, Ms. Jane Okumu, Mr. Aisu Peter, and Dr. Nathan Walufu.

These individuals will play a vital role in supporting the Commission’s work and overseeing the health sector in Uganda.

Speaker Among reassured the public that the vetting process was being conducted with the utmost seriousness and care.

She stressed that the committee would ensure that the individuals nominated were thoroughly examined to determine whether they were fit for the roles they were set to undertake.

The Health Service Commission’s work is vital to Uganda’s healthcare system, and the nominees’ approval by Parliament is a crucial step in the appointment process.
